Evergreen Girls State updates
Hello Girls State Chairwomen, Unit Presidents & District Presidents!
Attached you will find updated information for Evergreen Girls State 2023, including our Quick Facts sheet, a flyer, a printable application, and the Selection Form.
In general, you will find all the information you need on our website (evergreengirlsstate.com). This is being updated regularly and we ask that you reference the website as much as possible. There is a new tab called "Unit/Recruiter Resources" that is dedicated just to you, with all of the forms, flyers, and information you will need in one place. We understand that not everyone is completely comfortable with the computer/internet which is why we are also providing this info via this email and via mail when requested.
The attached flyer has been emailed to our list of schools (which should be all of them in WA state). However, we would still like all of you to visit your local high schools, youth clubs, churches, etc. and spread the word about ALA Evergreen Girls State! The flyer is a good tool. The brochure is also available on the website, or you can request hard copies from Department or the Girls State Committee.
This year we have an online application for girls to use. The girls can find us directly online and use this application to apply and select how they would like to be sponsored. There is an application to self-fund, which would mean they pay the full $600 cost themselves. They would then be interviewed by a member of the Girls State committee to ensure they meet our selection criteria (and they will be funneled all through one Unit). The girls also have the option to be sponsored by a Unit. We will then send their application to a Unit in their area to help fund them (that's YOU!). Communication is key here; we will send emails with applications and want to make sure all applicants get sponsored.
You, as Units, are also welcome to run your own application process like you have done in previous years. Or you can use the paper application attached here. Once your final selections have been made through either process, we ask that you send your money along with the names of the girls you've selected on the Selection Form to the Girls State Treasurer (her address is on the form).
Once the Selection Form is received, the Girls State Committee will reach out to the girls and send them the required Registration paperwork. We'd love for each district to have an Orientation and we will be happy to send a member of the Girls State Committee if you provide your dates. We will also be hosting a few orientations over Zoom.
This is YOUR program and we can't do it without you! Your recruiting efforts are key in helping to find girls to attend this amazing program.
