How We Serve

Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation

Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation

Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation

Whether organizing a stand down, assembling care packages/tray favors/greeting cards, volunteering at our VA Hospitals and State Homes, providing holiday gifts, cooking, or shopping for active-duty military/veterans and/or their families, member volunteers are at the heart of the Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation Program.

Children & Youth

Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation

Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation

The Children & Youth program emphasizes protecting, caring for, and supporting children and youth, particularly those of veterans’ and military families.

To recognize and reward the positive actions of our children and youth, the American Legion Auxiliary has two special national awards bestowed to youth nominated by units: the Youth Hero Award and the Good Deed Award.

Education

Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation

Our goal:

To promote quality education for children, especially for military children, and adults.

To encourage schools to invite veterans to speak in their classrooms.

To provide scholarships for students who desire a college education.

To Support legislation that establishes new scholarship opportunities.

The American Legion Auxiliary proudly host  ALA Evergreen Girls State every June,  an amazing week of learning focused on responsible citizenship.

ALA Evergreen Girls State delegates are a diverse group of young women with a shared desire to learn and lead.  Our “citizens” come together from small towns, big cities, and rural communities for a week of spirited, experiential learning about our democratic election processes.   For more information, visit www.evergreengirlsstate.com.

Community service

The American Legion Auxiliary adopted the poppy as its memorial flower

in 1921, and, in 1924, in conjunction with The American Legion, instituted

the national Poppy Program. Each year, American Legion Auxiliary

volunteers distribute millions of poppies, most handmade, in exchange for

contributions to assist active-duty military, veterans, and their families.

Our Dept of WA Auxiliary’s units distribute poppies throughout the year,

especially on veteran-related holidays.

Community service

.Making our communities better places in which to live is something Auxiliary members strive for each day across this country.

A major outreach program of the Auxiliary since 1926, Community Service also demonstrates our longstanding commitment to supporting and providing assistance with blood drives, first aid and CPR training, child safety programs, support for families in shelters, and disaster and emergency preparedness programs.

advocacy & legislative action

advocacy & legislative action

The American Legion Auxiliary has been and will continue to be a

strong advocate for veterans and national security issues. Many bills pertaining to veterans benefits, military funding and

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs funding

are proposed every year.  ALA members are encouraged to take the opportunity to make a difference for legislation of particular interest to the Legion Family.
